Psychoanalytic Therapy

Freud often comes to mind when people think of psychoanalysis. Freud suggested that we can be both aware - conscious - and unaware - unconscious - of what drives our thoughts and feelings in everyday life. The purpose of psychoanalysis is to consider previously unconscious feelings to earlier events so that new insights and ways of looking at difficulties might emerge to alleviate difficulties. The therapist will offer you a space to speak freely and encourage you not to censor or edit what you say, they then consider how they feel in relation to you and offer this information so as to see if it is important in how you relate to others. Therapists are also likely to offer you interpretation and thoughts that might change the way you are considering a concern in life.
