Body Dysmorphic Disorder
An anxiety disorder where people can be concerned about how they look, are concerned about their appearance. Often physical marks can become hugely significant. Sufferers can start to avoid social situations, take significant measures to cover up their bodies, feel shamed, diet or exercise excessively. It can be very hard to seek help for this problem because sufferers are fearful of the reaction of others.
Sufferers may also experience depression and other mental health conditions.
Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a non judgemental and safe space for exploring the experience of Body Dysmorphic Disorder and examine ways for managing and alleviating symptoms. We have extensive experience of working with people suffering with Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
